ANZ 2024 Melbourne Golf Day - The Metropolitan Golf Club

The ANZ Melbourne Golf Day took place at The Metropolitan Golf Club on a cool but dry day. The course was in fantastic condition as usual and the firm and fast greens would have to be mastered to ensure a good score.

In the end, the top two teams were separated by only 0.25 of a shot. The difference between second and third was exactly one shot with the third placed team of Timothy Suffield, Mark Whitehead, Marcus Wappet and Brenton Rogers recording nett 55.5. They were off to a great start with three birdies in their first five holes. Four more birdies would follow, including a crucial birdie on their final hole to put them in third place. The runners up shot the lowest score of the day and were the talk of the course after their great start that included an eagle, six birdies in their first nine holes. Things slowed for a few holes before they added three more birdies on the back nine, but in the end they would fall agonisingly short of the winning score with nett 54.5. Well played, Carla Pierce, Riley Pinkus, Kane Wallace & Brendan Pihan. The winners were only two under par after eleven holes and a long way off preparing any speeches, but that all changed when they played their last seven holes in six under par to rocket up the leaderboard and ultimately take first place with nett 54.25. Congratulations Daniel Bergamin (24), Philip Sherlock (20), Leigh Petschel (14) & Sean Devlin (20).
