ANZ NSW Institutional Golf Day 2017 - The Lakes Golf Club

The ANZ Institutional golf day took place at The Lakes Golf Club under fine but windy conditions. Guests were treated to a bag drop service on arrival and carts for the duration of play on the tough Lakes layout. Three female golf professionals were also on hand to provide assistance on course.

Scoring was surprisingly good in the challenging conditions, with three teams finishing on seven under par. The team of Mark Lindon, Gerry Harvey, Peter Mattick & Michael Siddle hit the lead with five holes to play after a hot run of eagle, birdie, birdie, birdie, par, birdie from the eighth hole. Unfortunately their momentum was halted when all four players hit their second shots in the water when going for the green on the par 5 14th. The perennial winners (Michael Hasten, Timothy Burt, Tom McNamara & Nick Osler) looked very much like they would do it again when they hit the lead at eight under par with only one hole to play. However, the into the wind 2nd hole would prove their undoing with their only bogey of the day to finish with a nett score of 56.875. This bogey paved the way for the team of Chris McCann, Alastair Gourlay, Gavin Wallace & Nathan James to take their maiden victory with a five under par round and a nett score of 56.5. The winners took full advantage of Sunny's drive on the 17th hole that lead them to an eagle on only their second hole of the day. Steady play from there with three birdies and fourteen pars was enough to win by just 0.375 shots.
