Allianz Blue Eagle Final 2017 - The Australian Golf Club

Victorian team win the prestigious Blue Eagle Golf Tournament 2017!

Now in its eighth year the annual Allianz Blue Eagle Golf tournament 2017 is renowned for both its magnificent golfing experience and the outstanding major prize – this year is a trip for two to The Masters 2018 in Augusta, Georgia.

On the eve of the tournament, finalists were welcomed to The Australian Golf Club for a pre-tournament dinner. During the evening, guests enjoyed meeting One Allianz executives, surveying other finalists and learning more about the famous course - their last chance to get playing tips ahead of the tournament the following day.

On the morning of the competition, finalists enjoyed a light breakfast and watched the sunrise over the gum trees, a chance for their nerves to settle. It was then over to the practice greens and driving range to warm up and acclimatise to the conditions. As tee off time came closer, the group were called to the practice green for the traditional tournament photos. Managing Director, Niran Peiris, welcomed the group and officially launched the tournament with his ceremonial tee off.

Conditions were perfect and the tournament was fierce. Our first father and son team, Rick and Justin Purslowe from AVISO WA were in the lead after the first nine holes. The challenging course at The Australian proved to be tricky, with the lead changing a few times.

The course was in pristine condition and we had nearest the pin prizes at the 4th & 11th holes. General Manager, Denis Morrissey and State Manager VIC/TAS, Rob Funnell were both awarded these prizes on the day. Justin Purslowe from AVISO WA, the youngest of the finalists and a skilled golfer, delighted his fellow finalists by getting the longest drive on the 8 th hole (par 4) 389 metres.

All players then enjoyed a lunch in the Upper Dining Room, with a recap of the day and presentation of the awards. After a challenging 18 holes of golf with the lead changing a few times, the Victorian team of Michael Fennessy and David Welsh from Honan & Associates took out the Blue Eagle Golf national title with 44 points. They were followed closely by Rick and Justin Purslowe from AVISO WA with 42 points. Third place was awarded to David Creaser and Brad Entwistle from Safeguard Insurance Brokers in SA with 41 points.

Congratulations to Michael and David, who are off on an amazing trip to The Masters 2018. David and Michael’s prize includes a $6,000 Flight Centre Voucher, 5 nights’ accommodation at the Hilton Garden Inn in Aiken, badge tickets for Saturday and Sunday to The Masters 2018 with hospitality, 18 holes of Golf at The Reserve Golf Club and 5 Days Car Hire.

We look forward to hearing all about Michael and David’s adventures upon their return in April 2018.

We will be launching the 2018 Major Prize in December this year – so keep your eye on the Blue Eagle website for more details!
