2026 Akambo Golf Day - The National Golf Club
The inaugural Akambo Golf Day was held on the Gunnamatta Course at The National Golf Club. The course was presented in outstanding condition, although the weather made things challenging at times. The competition was incredibly close, with just 0.25 of a shot separating the top two teams!
Claiming third place on a countback were Morgan Jenkins, Mike Klupas, Harvey Kalman & Nicholas Carmichael with a nett 55.75. They made a steady start with four consecutive pars before hitting their stride, producing an eagle and three birdies over the next four holes. With ten holes remaining, they were firmly in contention for victory. However, with just one further birdie added to their scorecard, they ultimately had to settle for third place.
Finishing in second place were Toby Loakes, Stuart Williamson, Victor Fallon & Mattias Rosa with a nett 54.62, finishing just over a shot ahead of the third-placed team. In a remarkably similar start to the team behind them, they opened with a run of pars before playing a four-hole stretch in five under par. An untimely bogey on their ninth hole slowed their momentum, but they quickly recovered with three more birdies. With two holes remaining, victory was still within reach, but two closing pars saw them fall agonisingly short, missing out by just 0.25 of a shot.
Taking out the Akambo Golf Day in style were Graeme Quinlan (2), Rocky Sorrenti (13), Jerome Swindon (27) & Steve Curnow (27) with an outstanding nett 54.37. Their impressive final score of 63 was equal-lowest of the day, despite including a bogey on the challenging par-3 16th hole. They certainly didn't have it all their own way early on, sitting at just one under par after six holes. However, they soon found another gear, playing the next eight holes in an incredible eight under par! That remarkable run gave them a valuable buffer, allowing them to navigate the final five holes at one under par and secure a fantastic victory.
