2026 Lexus of Townsville Golf Invitational - Townsville Golf Club

The Lexus of Townsville Golf Invitational returned to its traditional home at Townsville Golf Club, where perfect conditions paved the way for some exceptional scoring. With five teams finishing on 61 or better, it proved to be one of the most competitive events of the year.

Claiming third place were the three-ball team of Nevill Mersky, Wendy Mersky and Gery Benson. Their round started steadily, with five pars and a birdie across the opening six holes, before catching fire with three consecutive birdies. Despite the surge, they were still well off the pace with five holes to play. However, a sensational finish saw them play their final five holes in five under par, securing third place with nett 50.5.

Finishing just half a shot better in second place were Monique Dury, Todd Small, Simon Ahern and Marissa Ahern with nett 50. They made an impressive start, recording five birdies through their opening eight holes, but two pars followed by a bogey threatened to derail their challenge. Needing a strong finish, they responded brilliantly, playing their final seven holes in six under par to edge into the runner-up position.

The winning team also made a flying start, reaching four under par through the opening six holes before their momentum stalled with five consecutive pars. A timely birdie, followed by an eagle on the par-5 14th, thrust them back into contention heading down the stretch. With several teams still in the hunt, the tournament was there to be won, and a remarkable eagle on their final hole of the day—the 1st—proved to be the decisive blow. Congratulations to Peter McLean, Mal Quantrill, David Stapleton and Karen Stapleton on a thoroughly deserved victory.

The on-course charity event was another great success, raising an impressive $3,800 for the Mater Foundation. Thank you to everyone who generously contributed and helped support such a worthwhile cause.

Nine guests also took part in a paint class and some of their fine work can be seen in the photos below.

The opportunity to go to the Lexus Melbourne Cup was drawn at the end of the day and Neville Donohue was the lucky winner. Neville will have the opportunity to play Royal Melbourne Golf Club and attend LANDMARK by Lexus for the running of the Lexus Melbourne Cup.
