2023 Lexus of Indooroopilly Golf Invitational - Links Hope Island
The Lexus of Indooroopilly Golf Invitational was held at Links Hope Island on a beautiful day. The wind picked up and made scoring challenging, but with all the assistance on course a good score would still be required to take out the win.
In the end, it was extremely close, with only four shots separating the lowest score from the highest score. The third placed team of David Wilson, Larry Ludwig & Simon Wynne were just 0.04 better than fourth with nett 56.83. Despite being a 3-ball team, they started strongly with birdies on their first two holes, but it would be another eight holes before another birdie was found. Then, a generous (and wise) donation on the charity hole ensured they moved up the leader board into a podium finish. The runner up team of Jamie Lees, Melinda Lees, Gavin Wright & Patrick Cook finished just ahead with nett 56.57. Their round started with a bogey, then a birdie, then a bogey and they were not looking like featuring in the prize presentation at all until five straight birdies to finish saw them leapfrog more than half the field. The winners were steady with four straight pars but then two bogeys struck and the last thing they would have been thinking about was the win. Thankfully for them, five birdies would follow and a fantastic eagle on the par 4 16th hole when one of their players holed a lengthy bunker shot. They would go on to sneak ahead with nett 55.75 - congratulations Kerry Clarke (21), Wayne Clarke (27), Patricia O'Connor (29) & John Wall (13).
