2023 ISPS Handa Australian Open Fujitsu Charity Golf Day - The Australian Golf Club

The Australian Golf Club was the venue for the 17th Fujitsu Charity Golf Day, supporting Ronald McDonald House Charities Australia. Players and spectators alike, were in awe of the condition of the golf course and Fujitsu guests were thrilled to play the day after the thrilling finish of The Australian Open. The weather also played its part and that no doubt had an impact on the great scores. In fact, in 2022 only nine teams managed to compile scores above 90 points and this year there were fifteen teams that scored 93 or better!

When the leaderboard paused after fourteen holes, there were eight teams within four shots of the lead, but a lot happened on those final four holes and one team would become a clear winner. A count back was required to determine third place with three teams finishing on 97. Scraping over the line was the team of Nathan Walter, John Blyton, Dean Smith & Nick Herbert who started strongly with two 6-pointers, a 7-pointer and 8-pointer in their first five holes. Things steadied after that, but they were still able to hold onto third place. Four shots better with 101 points were Darian Hall, Scott Dial, Kyle Thornhill & Logan Dial, who had an incredibly consistent round with only one 3-pointer and two 4-pointers. That, together with eleven holes with a 6-pointer or better, allowed them to take out second place. The winning team scored 105 points and had an erratic round to say the least! A strong start saw them near the top of the leaderboard for most of the day until a 2-pointer occurred on the tough 7th hole - the hole that Adam Scott made triple bogey on the day before. Then, with the leaderboard paused, they went on to have 27 points in their last four holes to take out the victory. Congratulations to Charles Gonzalez (24), Andrew Freeman (22), Ian Manovel (27) & Matt Botlon (10). Additional congratulations to Matt who was in last year's winning team as well.
