2023 Lexus Melbourne Cup Experience - Royal Melbourne Golf Club
The Lexus Melbourne Cup Experience took place at the number one course in the country, Royal Melbourne Golf Club. The course was in great condition after the recent playing of the Asia-Pacific Amateur Championship and guests would have to get used to the challenging greens and their firm surrounds. Whilst one team ran away with the victory, the next three teams were within half a shot of each other.
The two teams to just miss out on a prize were the 4th placed team of David Mallett, Lyn Mallett & John Bean who, despite losing one of their players early in the round, went on to shoot seven birdies and no bogeys as a three ball team and finish with nett 57. Just 0.13 ahead on nett 56.83 were the Perth team of Robert Kay, Margot Kay, Kristian Janicki & Lawrence Man who unfortunately had a bogey on their last hole to drop them out of second place. The runners up were steady all day and their only bogey was recorded on the short par 3 7th hole. However, 6 birdies were also added to their card meaning they were able to sneak into second position with nett 56.5. Well played, Glenn Thurling, Ian Skippen, Dion Cardon-Smith & Lisa Cardon-Smith. The winners had a steady start with seven straight pars until they managed a birdie on the tough 17th hole. This clearly sparked them as they managed to play their last nine holes in an incredible eight under par and take out the win by more than three shots. Congratulations Bruce Manderson (Brisbane), Brian Kinsey (Central West), George Megaloudis (Blackburn) & Andrew Senn (Blackburn). We were also lucky enough to have Lexus Golf Ambassador, Dimi Papadatos join us on the day and I would encourage you all to keep an eye out for Dimi on the Korn Ferry tour next year.
Please see some photos below that were taken on the day and also at the Lexus Melbourne Cup. I look forward to seeing you all at the Lexus golf days in 2024!
