2023 Steve Waugh Foundation - Grange @ Forever Green - The Lakes Golf Club
The 8th annual Steve Waugh Foundation Grange@Forever Green Golf Day was held at The Lakes Golf Club on May 25th, raising vital funds for children and young adults living with Rare Diseases.
The event was a huge success with 27 Teams teeing off to enjoy 18 holes of golf at one of the 2023 Australian Open venues. Grange@Forever Green is more than a golf day, with teams enjoying an afternoon of gourmet food and wine tasting experiences accompanied by Penfolds Grange, courtesy of major event supporters Penfolds.
For the second year in a row, we had perfect conditions for golf and in the end, six teams were within three shots of the winning score. Three teams finished on 105 points and just missed a podium finish. Ironically, the third place team of A H Beard would win the prize they donated after they missed the runners up position on a count back with 106 points. To their credit, they gave their prize back and we were able to pass it onto the fourth placed team of AVJennings. The runner up team representing the Sydney Cricket Ground Trust also finished on 106 points but their 53 on the back nine was good enough to win the count back. The winners separated themselves from the field by 2 shots with a score of 108 (just one short of last year's winning score). Their round started on the 6th hole and they recorded a mediocre 4 points. Unbeknown at the time, that would be their only 4 pointer of the day and they would go on to have two 5-pointers, twelve 6-pointers, a 7-pointer and an 8-point hole. Funds raised on the day go directly to life changing Grants for medicine, specialised equipment, treatment and items that improve the quality of life.
