2022 Lexus of Southport Golf Invitational - Links Hope Island

The Lexus of Southport Golf Invitational was held at the beautiful Links Hope Island. A fine but windy day greeted the guests, meaning scoring would be challenging for all.

In the end one team ran away with the win by just under three shots. The third placed team started slowly and were one over par after five holes. Thankfully some birdies followed and they were able to sneak into third place by 0.13 of a shot. Well played Leon Hill, Shelley Hill, Terry Brain & Cherie Brain who finished with nett 56.12. The second placed team were having a great round and were seven under par when they reached their final hole - the par 3 14th. A bogey would ensue, but they had done enough to take out second place with nett 55.5. Well done, Wayne Young, Allan Hare, Ray Culpan & Stephen Grant. The winners had the perfect start with three birdies in a row and later during the round they had two eagles in a row with the charity hole on the 17th and then a holed shot from 60m out on the 18th. A bogey on their second last hole put some doubt into their minds, but in the end they had an easy victory with nett 52.87. Congratulations Lesley Lee (29), Gordon Gray (23), Russell Maxwell (14) & Jane Maxwell (15) who also qualify to play for the Gordon Scifleet Trophy at Brookwater in March. The on course charity event raised $2,772 for Leukaemia Foundation - thank you to all who contributed. Ashleigh was on the 2nd hole measuring the guest's 'smash factor' - the ration between ball speed and swing speed. For a collection of swings, please see the video below:
