Lexus of Blackburn Golf Invitational - September 2019 - The Royal Melbourne Golf Club

The Lexus of Blackburn Golf Invitational took place at the number one course in the country and the home of the 2019 President's Cup, Royal Melbourne Golf Club. The forecast for the event wasn't great, but that didn't deter 102 guests from turning up for the 18 hole event and 26 for the beginner lessons. With the course in fantastic condition, scores were bound to be good and in the end, three teams finished within a shot of the winning score.   

The difference between second and third was just 0.125 of a shot. The unlucky third placed team started extremely strongly with a birdie and eagle in their first four holes to shoot to the top of the leaderboard. Unfortunately for them, they could only manage one more birdie for the rest of their round and would have to settle for a nett 58. Well done to Rudham Gammampila, Tharaka Gammampilla, Roger Wallace & Heather Wallace. The runners up had as similar story, with four birdies in their first nine holes but only one on their last nine. A dreaded bogey midway through their round certainly didn't help their cause either. That said, Bryan Newman, Lynn Newman, Ian Greenwood & Paul Heesterman were good enough to take away the runner's up prize with nett 57.875. In contrast to the second and third teams, the winners were struggling early in their round with only one birdie in their first ten holes.  However, a strong finish that included four birdies allowed them to win by just 0.675 with nett 57.125 - congratulations to Feng Wan (15), David Wei (15), Jian Lee (21) & Maria Soo (28).

The charity event on course raised in excess of $2,040 for the Guide Dogs, Victoria - thank you to all who contributed. Ashleigh was managing the 'smash factor' hole on the 12th - see below for a collection of shots (including the winner's smash factor of 1.52!).

The opportunity for one Lexus owner to attend the Lexus Melbourne Cup was drawn at the end of the day. Congratulations to Shirley Harris who will have the opportunity to play Royal Melbourne Golf Club followed by a day at the races in the Lexus Design Pavilion for the running of the Lexus Melbourne Cup.
