2019 Sydney City Lexus Golf Invitational - March - The Lakes Golf Club

The first of two Sydney City Lexus Golf Invitationals took place at The Lakes Golf Club under somewhat threatening conditions. However, that did not deter in excess of 100 guests who turned up to play the famous layout. Unfortunately, during the golf briefing the heavens started to open and after a short while the course was unplayable. After a brief halt in play, guests were back out and able to complete their rounds without further interruption. 

One team managed to storm home on the live scoring devices with an incredible score of 8 under in the trying conditions, but the rest of the field were fairly bunched when handicaps came into play. In third place with a nett 57.75 was the team of Rob Brown, Phill Byers, Hans Schweizer & Roland Joder who had a fun filled round with a host of birdies and a couple of bogeys on their way to a 67.  Over 1.5 shots ahead with nett 56.125 were our second place team of Brian Smyth, Margaret Smyth, Tri Tran & Harry Phan. They started steadily with six straight pars until they managed five birdies in a six hole stretch, that was only spoilt by a bogey in the middle. The winners started the day well with two straight birdies and then played steadily for the next ten holes with two birdies and a bogey. It wasn't until they had five birdies in a row from the 8th - 12th, until their name shot up the leaderboard to finish with a nett 53.625, some 2.5 shots ahead of their nearest rival. Congratulations to David Buttel (22), John Vatovec (16), Chris Chappell (27) & Russell Moore (18).

The charity event on course raised in excess of $1,000 for the Sydney Children's Hospital, Randwick. Thank you to all who contributed. We also had the 'smash factor' hole on the 8th - see below for a collection of shots (including our winners smash factor of 1.51!).

The opportunity for one Lexus owner to attend the Lexus Melbourne Cup was drawn at the end of the day. Congratulations to Hongbin Yu, who will have the opportunity to play Royal Melbourne Golf Club followed by a day at the races in the Lexus Design Pavilion for the running of the Lexus Melbourne Cup.
