2019 Allianz Blue Eagle Final - The Australian Golf Club

The Allianz Blue Eagle Final took place at the beautiful Australian Golf Club. Ten finalists and ten Allianz staff tried to tame the famous layout and in the finalist's case - a trip to the 2020 Masters was on the line. 

After the traditional Champion's Dinner the previous night and the cap throwing photo in the morning, everyone headed to the first tee to watch Alison Brough take the Ceremonial tee shot. See below for how the nerves affected the first shots of the day...

Once everyone settled into their round, it was clear to see the NSW broker team had started strongly. A front nine of 26 points meant they were already four shots in front of their nearest rival, SA. That four shot lead had whittled down to one shot when the live scoring devices were taken off the guests with four holes to play. After fifteen holes it was a race between three teams, SA & NSW were on 37pts and VIC were on 35pts. With two of the toughest holes on the course still yet to be played, shots were on offer for all. In the end it was the nerve of Phillip Addison that got the SA team over the line, when he finished 4pt, 3pt, 2pt to give SA 46pts and the victory from NSW & VIC who both finished with 43pts. Congratulations Phillip Addison & Tony Basnec!

For the Allianz staff, one team leapt ahead on the leaderboard after consecutive five pointers and were seven shots ahead after just five holes. Unfortunately, they couldn't keep the momentum going all the way home. As with the brokers, things were very close when the live scoring devices were handed back after the 14th hole, with just 1pt separating two teams. Some solid play from Paul Riordan and Brad Bartlem saw them score 11pts in their final four holes to take the win by three shots with 45pts. Commiserations to Glen Drinnan & Mark Sbaglia who were the runners up with 42pts.
