Lexus of Newcastle Golf Invitational 2018 - The Vintage Golf Club

The Lexus of Newcastle Golf Invitational started off with a huge thunderstorm rolling through the area early in the morning. Thankfully, that only put a few guests off and those that decided to turn up were rewarded with only a couple of minor showers throughout the day. The rain made the course play a little longer but scoring overall was very good.

In third place was the team of Peter Fishlock, John Slight, Frederick Pawlak & Denis Lindsey, who were even par after their first twelve holes and must have been wondering if they were ever going to make a move. Well, it did eventually happen when they had four birdies in a six hole stretch to finish with a nett 57.25. Just 0.125 better was Noel Harden, Jeff Biddlecombe, Darren Worth & Kerry Spicer-Worth after they shot a fine 67. Again, they had a steady start to be just two under after thirteen holes. A quick fire stretch of three birdies in four holes sent them up the leaderboard and it would have been right to the top if not for a lone bogey on their fourth last hole. Our winners finished with a nett score of 56.125 and were exactly one shot ahead of their closest rival, but, like those teams mentioned above, they started slowly. In fact, they were one over par through their first six holes after they started the round with a bogey on their very first hole. Thankfully a stretch of six under through six holes (including an eagle when one of the group holed a shot from 90m out) saw them come home the victors. Congratulations to Darrel Porter (11), Mark Sampson (18), Rob O'Brien (18) & Brett Jaeger (27).

Funds were raised on course and via a raffle for Tour de Cure and Kidney Health Australia. Thank you to all those who donated as we raised in excess of $2,000. Guests also had the chance to win a Lexus with a hole in one on the 17th hole. Unfortunately, no one was lucky enough to hit the perfect shot, however it did make for some good viewing! See all the attempts below:
