Allianz Blue Eagle Final 2018 - The Australian Golf Club

The Allianz Blue Eagle Final for 2018 took place at the beautiful Australian Golf Club under the most perfect conditions. The guests were treated to a pre event dinner at Kingsley's, where they were given the low down on what to expect at The Australian Golf Club the following day.

The winning broker score was the highest in Blue Eagle Final history, but that didn't mean other teams weren't without their chances. In fifth place was the SA team, who after eleven holes were only one shot behind the leaders on 28pts. Unfortunately, only nine points on their last seven holes brought them undone. Third and fourth place had to be decided by a count back after both teams finished with 39pts. NSW were the unlucky ones in fourth place, but they did have some moments with scores of 4pts, 4pts, 3pts from the 8th to the 10th holes. Also on 39pts was the WA team who, after a slow start, went on to have six up through eight holes at one stage to give them some hope. In second place, three shots behind the eventual winners with 43pts were the VIC team and if not for a team wipe on the 13th hole, things could have been very different. The winners had a very consistent round with ten 3 point holes and no wipes or one-pointers. They shot out of the blocks to turn in 24pts but things slowed for them on the back nine and they only had one up on their last six holes...leading to some concern when they headed to the clubhouse. That said, they did shoot 46pts as a team and go on to be the winners of the 2018 Allianz Blue Eagle Final - congratulations to Dustyn Brown and Kris Minns from QLD.

The Allianz staff teams were only separated by three shots when the live scoring devices were taken away. Unbelievably the team coming last at that stage went on to win after a 4pt, 4pt, 4pt finish by Shane Risby for a personal 25pts on the back nine! Congratulations to Shane Risby and Alison Brough who finished one clear with 45pts. In second place was Kate Stebbings and Michael Pocknee on 44pts, who must have felt unlucky after they finish 4pt, 4pt on their final two holes. But the unluckiest of all in third place were Matt DeGruchy and Adam Lloyd, who were in fact 2pts in front of any other team heading to the last hole. Unfortunately at team wipe meant they would have to settle for third place. Fourth place was taken out by Paul Riordan and David Hosking, followed by fifth placed Robert Funnell and Rob Walters.
