2020 Lexus of Blackburn Golf Invitational - Royal Melbourne Golf Club (March)

The Lexus of Blackburn Golf Invitational was again hosted at the number one course in the country, Royal Melbourne Golf Club. Heavy rain passed over Melbourne in the early hours of the morning, but thankfully the day improved remarkably by the time we needed to hit the golf course. The course was in as good a condition as I have ever seen a golf course and it is a real credit to all involved at the Club. With super fast greens, it was going to be a true test of golf for all and in the end it lead to some of the closest scores ever seen at a Lexus event with the difference between the top four teams was just 0.38 of a shot!

The lucky third placed team just pipped another team on a count back, after both teams finished with a nett 58. They did extremely well throughout the day as they were one of the few three ball teams on course, but I am sure they had their eyes on the victory after they were five under through their first ten holes. Unfortunately for them, that was also the final score they posted. Well played, Con Terpos, Chris Terpos & Keate Woodgate. The runners up fell just 0.25 of a shot short of the winning score when they finished with nett 57.87 after a score of 68. Having a good score would have been the furthest thing from their mind after they bogeyed two of their first three holes. However, some strong play from there, including four birdies in a row at one stage marched them up the leaderboard. Well done to Jian Lee, Hong Ping Tan, Wey Ho & Alfred Ling. The winners shot the lowest score of the day, a 65 but they also had one of the lowest handicapped teams and would require a great score to feature. In the end steady play throughout the day saw them post five birdies and no bogeys for their first sixteen holes, but it was the birdie, birdie finish that took them to victory with nett 57.62 - congratulations to Eko Oetomo (6), Joe Ozzimo (14), Phillip Thomas (18) & Nick Barrett (21).
