2019 Lexus of Blackburn Golf Invitational - March - Royal Melbourne Golf Club

The Lexus of Blackburn Golf Invitational was held at the number one course in the country - Royal Melbourne Golf Club. Perfect conditions greeted the record crowd, with a total of 154 enjoying either the 18 holes or the beginner lessons. With such a large field, scoring was bound to be good!

Two teams managed to shoot fantastic scores of eight under par, but neither of them would be good enough when the handicaps were taken into consideration. The runners up were one of those teams and managed a clean scorecard with eight birdies and no bogeys. Well done to Alan Winford (4), Chris Devanny (18), Howard Tonkin (27) & Ian Tonkin (27) who finished with a nett 54.625. The eventual winners had the perfect start with birdie, birdie, birdie surely giving them some early confidence. That momentum slowed slightly as they were only able to manage another four birdies in their next thirteen holes and then came a dreaded bogey that surely must have given them doubts about the chances of winning. In the end, they beat the rest of the field by just over a shot with a nett 53.5. Congratulations to Chris Allardice (12), Mark Chester (27), Ros Davies (26) & Anne McKenzie (35).

The charity event on course raised $1,750 for the Fight MND Charity. Thank you to all who contributed. We also had the 'smash factor' hole on the 12th - see below for a collection of shots (including three smash factors of 1.53!).

The opportunity for one Lexus owner to attend the Lexus Melbourne Cup was drawn at the end of the day. Congratulations to Joe Ozzimo, who will have the opportunity to play Royal Melbourne Golf Club followed by a day at the races in the Lexus Design Pavilion for the running of the Lexus Melbourne Cup.
